Cobras defeat Brookhaven, Franklin County

Wesson upsets Brookhaven, whips Franklin County

The Wesson Cobras (3-5) got their season on course last week with two big victories over the Franklin County Bulldogs and the Brookhaven Panthers.  The weekend saw the Cobras lose 7-4 to a strong North Pike squad and 6-2 to the Magee Trojans in a rain shortened game.

“Brookhaven was a big win,” stated head coach Seth Lofton.  “We still have to cut down the errors and make the routine plays to get where we want to go.”

Wesson 16, Franklin County 3

Co-Lin signee Matt Smith had a monstrous evening going 5 for 5 at the plate and launching a grand slam in the process to bust the game wide open for the Cobras while racking up 6 strikeouts.  Smith also recorded 9 strikeouts in picking up the win for the Cobras only allowing one earned run.

Jacob Fischer had 2 hits including a double and Alex Smith smashed a double for the Cobras.

Wesson 12, Brookhaven 11

Wesson got a strong start from starter Gib Britt that went to waste as the Panthers launched a rally to go ahead of Wesson in the 7th inning.   Kyle Cross launched a two run homerun and Gage Wilson nailed a walk off single to give Wesson a key victory early in the season.

Bailey Warren picked up the win recording the final two outs of the game for the Cobras on the mound while Wilson went 4 for 5 with a double for the Cobras offense.

Tyson Wesley had a double and single for Wesson while Matt Smith had two singles.

North Pike 7, Wesson 4

Gage Wilson picked up the loss for the Cobras.  Stats not available at press.

Magee 6, Wesson 2

Matt Smith picked up his first loss of the season in the rain shortened game.
