The Wesson Cobras used a 4-2 deciding game three victory to advance to the third round of the state playoffs against Enterprise-Clarke.  The Cobras declined to do it without a little drama.
“Our guys were down 2-0 early and we just kept chipping away,” stated first year Wesson head coach Seth Lofton.  “We battled at the end and came up with the big plays.  I am very proud of my guys.”

The Wesson Cobras rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and senior right hander Matt Smith nailed the coffin shut in the top half of the seventh inning to lead Wesson to a 4-2 victory.
After DH Josh Smith drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth, catcher Jacob Fischer laid down precision bunt down the first base line that caused Enterprise some problems with fielding it.
Senior leadoff batter Gib Britt then drove in the go-ahead run with a single while Kyle Cross would sacrifice on the next to drive in the fourth Cobra run.
The winning pitcher was left handed senior Gage Wilson who battled a sluggish start to come back and pitch six strong innings for the Cobras.  Smith picked up the save with a game ending strikeout over the Enterprise-Clarke leadoff batter.
Pat Boone had two singles while Smith doubled in the four hit contest.

The Cobras were silenced on the road by the side-armed pitching of Jeremy Kidd.  The Cobras were held to three hits and one run in the loss.
Losing hurler Gib Britt pitched admirably, but the Cobra bats were silenced.  Britt, Smith and Boone singled in the loss for the Cobras.

Senior Matt Smith struck out 10 in the game one win that put the Cobras out in front in the best of three series.  The Cobras pounded out 10 hits in the win led by third baseman Cullen Greer who homered and singled in the contest.
Boone and Wilson had two singles each while Jacob Fischer, Josh Smith, Britt, and Matt Smith singled.
The Cobras face old playoff foe Richton this week in a best of three series.  The Cobras travel to Richton Friday night and face Richton at home Saturday.  Games begin at 7:00 p.m.
