The Wesson Cobras captured the South State Championship with a huge victory over the Mize Bulldogs by the team score of 5-2.
They earned a shot at defending champ St. Joe on Monday, but fell short to the Bruins, 4-3.
St. Joe’s Jenny Coffey knocked off Summer Rials, 6-4, 6-2, in girls singles.  The Bruins won the No. 1 boys doubles, No. 1 girls doubles and No. 2 girls doubles, as well.
Wesson’s No. 1 boys doubles tandem of Cullen Greer and Zack Wilson played in the state finals on Tuesday.
Wesson Tennis is under the direction of head coach Rod Martin.
“I could not be more proud of my team,” stated Martin.  “This is our second straight South State Championship and nobody expected us to do it this year.
Against Mize, the team was led by the undefeated No. 1 boys singles player Emilio Collado and the Mixed Doubles team of Brandon Nettles and Abigail Schimmel.  Both teams were 7-0 on the season.
The boys doubles pairs of No. 1 doubles Cullen Greer and Zach Wilson and No. 2 doubles Gib Britt and Josh Smith were both 7-1 on the year.
The girls doubles squad consisted of No. Jordan Nettles and Maddie Rials, and No. 2 Brooke Ryan and Effie Forrest.
