Wilburn James “Boy” Howard, Sr.

Wilburn James “Boy” Howard, Sr. died peacefully at his home Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the golden age of 100 years.

Visitation will be 9:30am-11am Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs.  Services will be 11am Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Stringer Family Chapel with burial in Crystal Springs Cemetery.

He was a lifelong resident of Copiah County, born July 25, 1910 to the late Walter Wilburn and Myrtie Clower Howard.  He was one of five children born to a loving family and given the nickname “Boy” which stuck with him his entire life.  He graduated from Crystal Springs High School and was a mechanic at the Jackson airport during World War II.  He farmed his entire adult life with his brother, Ray, and was successful in many agricultural operations including the production of fresh vegetables, broilers and beef cattle.  He retired from farming in 2000 at 90 years of age and lived the remainder of his life in comfort and with a great sense of pride.  He will be deeply missed by his grateful family and community. 
 
Wives Louise Harrell Howard and Leone Davis Howard preceded him in death. 

He is survived by a brother, Ray Howard (Charlene); a sister, Doris Polk; and children Carol Dendy (Harry) of Clinton, Wilburn James Howard, Jr (Sue) of Slidell, LA, Elaine Propst (Mark) of Ridgeland and Mike Davis of Jackson; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc., 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS  39157
