Will Roy Smith

Will Roy Smith, 82, of Hazlehurst, and formerly of Danville, IL, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Pine Crest Guest Home in Hazlehurst.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 8-10 a.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 14150 Mississippi 472. To get directions, call (601) 894-0009

Mr. Smith was born April 16, 1929 in Hazlehurst, the son of Carrie and Dank Smith. He was educated in the Copiah County School System.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Smith, his parents, Carrie Harris Smith and Dank Smith, two brothers, James Smith and William Smith; five sisters, Bertha Mae Smith; Beatrice Smith; Louella Dixon; Nellie Mae Joiner and Alberta Smith.
Mr. Smith was united in Holy matrimony to Annette Alexander on July 15, 1953 in Danville, IL. They had seven children: Eddie R. Smith of Ontario, California; B. Ashley (Steven) Young of Cincinnati, Ohio; Nancy A. (David) McGowan of Crete, Illinois; Glenda L. (Darrell) Johnson of Houston, Texas; Edward E. (Lucille) Smith of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Patricia A. Smith (deceased) and Derrick Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was employed at General Motors in Tilton, IL for more than 28 years. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Danville.
Will enjoyed singing and held up the base part of The Gospelaires of Danville, a male gospel chorus that toured the country giving glory to God through song. He also enjoyed baseball and watching his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include: six children, 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Smith of New Orleans, LA.
