Cannon receives MACJC academic awards

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College soccer standout Britney Cannon of Wesson has earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) honors for her achievement in the classroom during the 2010-11 season. Eighteen Co-Lin student-athletes received recognition.

“We are proud of our accomplishments on the field, but are especially proud of our student-athletes accomplishments in the classroom,” said Co-Lin Athletic Director Gwyn Young. “Our success in the classroom is a reflection of the commitment of our coaching staff to academics.”

Receiving Distinguished Academic All-State honors are William Ashley (football) and Nicole Magee (tennis), both of Magee; Katie Beth Case (tennis) and Heather Phillips (soccer), both of Brookhaven; Conner Oakes of Monticello (baseball) and Blaine Roberts of Bogue Chitto (tennis).

MACJC Academic All-State recipients are St. Louis Cardinal draftee Kolby Byrd of Bogue Chitto (baseball), Ben Goff of McCall Creek (golf), Ben McDowell of Meadville (baseball), McNeese State signee Bethany Pinkston of Brusly, LA (softball), Tyler Reeves (baseball) and Levi Weeks (tennis/soccer), both of Monticello; Jonathan Robinson of Harvey (football), Bennett Rushewski of Benton (golf), Erika Rutland of Ruth (softball), Joey Shelton of Bude (tennis/soccer), Britney Cannon of Wesson (soccer), and Samantha Roberts of Summit (soccer).
