The Wesson Cobras (1-2) endured a nightmarish home stand against the Mize Bulldogs as they were pounded 33-7 by the visitors from Smith County.
The Cobras were deadlocked 0-0 after the first quarter but also suffered four first half fumbles that allowed Mize to whittle away at the Cobra defense and put it away in the second half.
“We made too many mistakes on offense early,” stated Wesson head coach Tommy Clopton.  “You can’t play that way against a good opponent and expect to win.  It only gets tougher from here.”
The Cobras were led by tailback Austin Graham’s 125 yards on 15 carries.  Graham broke loose for Wesson’s only score in the fourth quarter when he broke a 92 yard run to paydirt.  Graham kicked his own extra point to pull Wesson within 21-7.
Mize quarterback Dejerric Bryant was 10 for 13 passing with 152 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs had their way with the secondary of the Cobras all evening.  Charles Duckworth and Michael Nixon had TD catches for the Bulldogs.
The Wesson defense was led by middle linebacker Derrick Lyles who had 11 stops.  Payton Cupit had 10 tackles for the Cobras while Cullen Greer and Zach Wilson netted 7 tackles each.  Greer recovered a fumble for the Cobras.
The Cobras, 1-2, hit the road Friday at Seminary in another tough non-district matchup.  Kickoff is set for 7:30.
