Parklane edges Copiah softball

Walker records an out at 3rd base for the Colonels against Parklane.

By James Beasley

The Copiah Academy Lady Colonels, 19-3, suffered just their third loss of the season as the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to nip CA 7-6 in McComb last week. It was the only game of the week for the banged-up Lady Colonels.
After falling behind early, Copiah rallied to tie the score 4-4 in the top of the fifth. The Lady Colonels scored twice in the sixth, one run on Lindsey Walker’s RBI-triple, to tie the game 6-6 before Parklane got the walk-off win in the seventh.
Kacie Berry and Morgan Brown each had a pair of hits in a losing effort, while Kaitlyn Taylor (6-1) was tagged with her first loss of the season.
Coach Terry Bauer got some good news upon learning that Victoria Allen would return from a knee injury. Elizabeth Cliburn remains out with an injured ankle, and Kaylie Carpenter will likely miss another 3-4 weeks due to a knee injury. Kelly Byrd is out after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
The Lady Colonels will play at Jackson Prep this Thursday afternoon before heading to Monticello on Saturday for the Co-Lin Tournament.
