Indians hold back South Pike
The Hazlehurst Indians roared to 305 total yards at home and beat the South Pike Eagles 26-15 to ruin the homecoming of former Hazlehurst head coach Willie Brown.
Coach Randal Montgomery’s squad was led by star running back Demetrius Cain who had 187 yards on 14 carries and quarterback Kenneth Coleman was 5 of 12 for 92 yards passing on the evening with a touchdown and two rushing scores.
The first two scores of the night came on Kenneth Coleman touchdown runs of 4 and 18 yards respectively to put Hazlehurst up 14-0.
The third quarter saw the Indians bust a 4th and 30 play into a touchdown when Coleman hooked up with wideout John Bridges to put Hazlehurst up 20-0.
The fourth quarter saw defensive back D’Alex Rockingham pick off an Eagle pass and race 91 yards to paydirt to seal the deal 26-15.
Hazlehurst has an open date this week before beginning 7-3A play next week. The Indians host Prentiss for Homecoming next Friday at 7:30.
