Indians pick up big division win at Franklin County

BY BRADLEY CROW
The Hazlehurst Indians trailed 6-0 at halftime before regrouping and hammering the Bulldogs 28-12 and taking the drivers seat in the 7-3A race.
“We overcame a tough first half and played our game,” stated Hazlehurst head coach Randal Montgomery.  “These guys refuse to quit and as long as we get better each week we will be okay.  This was a big win for us on the road.”
After trailing 6-0 at the half, Tailback Demetrius Cain would put the Indians on the board with a 3 run scamper.  This tied the game at 6-6 after the failed extra point.
The D’Alex Rockingham show gave the Indians a 20-6 cushion after he doled out runs of 52 and 6 yards respectively.  Leading 18-8, Kenneth Coleman hooked up with wideout Dedric Reese for the two point conversion.
The Indians (6-1, 2-0) had the lead cut to 20-12 when Dycelious Reese would put the contest out of reach on a botched kickoff return of 71 yards.  Quarterback Kenneth Coleman would then put the two points on the board by tossing a pass to Rockingham to finalize the score at 28-12.
Rockingham led the Indian offense with 5 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns while hauling in 28 receiving yards.  The Indians travel to Wilkinson County for a tough 7-3A matchup.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.
