Wesson downs Loyd Star to stay undefeated in 6-2A

The Wesson Cobras dominated the first half of play in route to a 28-0 halftime lead and a 34-6 rouncing of Lincoln County and district rival Loyd Star.
“We came out and executed from the start of the ballgame,” explained head coach Tommy Clopton.  “We grabbed the momentum and tookit to them early.”
Wesson (3-4, 2-0) was led by tailback Austin Graham who had 100 yards rushing on 22 carries and a touchdown while quarterback Jacob Fischer had two rushing TD’s and a scoring toss in the contest.  
The Cobras struck near the eight minute mark of the first quarter when Austin Graham capped off the drive with a three yard plunge.  Graham’s PAT put the Cobras up 7-0.
The second score of the quarter came on a two yard Fischer run after another successful drive.  Grahams’ PAT put the Cobras up 14-0.
The second quarter saw another one yard plunge from Fischer and a Graham kick to go up 21-0.  The final score of the half came on a Fischer 7 yard TD toss to wideout Paxton Cupit with only 31 seconds remaining in the first half.  Graham’s kick extended the lead to 28-0 and extended a painful night for the hapless Hornets.
The lone Wesson score of the second half was a 5 yard run by Steven Jones who put the game away 34-0.  Jones finished the evening with 14 hard carries for 57 yards.
Defensively, the Cobra second team yielded the only score of the evening as the Wesson starters threw a shutout over the Hornets.  Middle linebacker Derrick Lyles led the Cobras with 9 tackles and one fumble recovery.  Payton Cupit had 7 stops and a fumble recovery while lineman Cullen Greer had 5 stops and a fumble recovery.  Nick Lewis recorded five tackles on the evening and Jacob Fischer had a momentum swinging interception.
The Cobras travel to Enterprise on Friday evening for a big district battle with the Yellow Jackets.   Kickoff is set for  7:00.
