Indians tend to business, down Crystal Springs 34-14

The Hazlehurst Indians (9-1, 5-0) overcame an early touchdown deficit to the Crystal Springs Tigers on Friday, to win going away 34-14.  The victory closed out the regular season and earned the Indians’ the 7-3A crown.
“One of our goals from early on was to win the district championship,”  commented proud head coach Randal Montgomery.  “These guys fought for me all year long.  Now, it is just one step at a time on the road to a state championship.”
The Indians got on the board after the Tiger score on a blocked punt by Javarious Tanner.  Jervarus Banks scooped it up and scored and the Indians were tied 6-6.
Demetrius Cain, who led the Indians with 12 carries for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns, scored on two of his runs next for the Indians.  First, he dove in from one yard out and then he scampered in from six yards out to extend the lead to 20-6.
The Indians took to the air on the next series as wideout Dedrick Reese would be hooked up with quarterback Kenneth Coleman on a 40 yard pass touchdown.  The Dycelious Reese kick would extend the Hazlehurst lead to 27-6.
The game would end 34-14 after Cain ran his final touchdown of the evening on an 8 yard TD scoring binge.
“We played well after we got going,” stated Montgomery.  “Being my first year here, I am proud of the guys effort and the support we have gotten.  Now we have to do it when it counts week to week.”
Defensively, the Indians were led by Johnkil Skipper who pulled down 10 tackles on the evening.  Tanner added 7 stops and a blocked punt in the win.
The Indians are on the reservation this week to face Heidelberg again in first round south state playoff action.  The first trip didnt turn out tOo well for the Oilers.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.
