Indians win 7-3A tourney; advance to south state

The Region 7-3A tournament at Jefferson County this past weekend turned out to be a big one for the Hazlehurst Indians, who defeated Franklin County in Friday’s championship game, 51-48. 
The Indians’ Dedric Reese led his team with 11 points.  Edwards scored 10 and J. Banks, 9.
To get to the title game, the Indians defeated Jefferson County on Thursday night.  Hazlehurst came out with the hot hand and defeated the home team 59-39.  Hazlehurst’s Trojuan White led all scorers with 30 points.  Javarus Banks added 9, and Dedric Reese, 7.
In girls’ action, the Lady Indians lost to Jefferson County on Wednesday, 51-46, and finished the season.
The Indians had already claimed a spot in the South 3A tournament by virtue of their second place finish in the regular season.  They will host Southeast Lauderdale on Tuesday at 7:00.
The Crystal Springs Tigers, who won the 7-3A regular season title and finished third in the region tournament, must travel to Choctaw Central on Tuesday.
