Lady Colonels pull upset in state AAA-D2 tourney
The Copiah Academy Lady Colonels, who have been beat up on and beat down all year by opponents, won a big one on Wednesday night in the MAIS State AAA-Div. II tourney at Heritage Academy near Columbus, Miss. The Lady Colonels, who were 2-21 coming into the tournament, knocked off Washington School 42-33. The Lady Generals finished the season 16-14.
Taylor Wilson led the Lady Colonels with 17. Teammate Carleigh Roberts notched 10.
The Lady Colonels will face East Rankin Academy on Friday at 1:00 p.m. A win puts the Lady Colonels in the title game on Saturday. A loss will pit them against the loser from the other bracket for third place and a chance to advance to Class AAA State tournament.
COLONELS ELIMINATED
In the boys’ game on Wednesday, Copiah was knocked out of the tournament with a loss to Heritage Academy.
Copiah trailed by 15 after three quarters at 39-24. The Colonels staged a furious comeback bid, outscoring Heritage 21-9 in the fourth, but fell just three points short, losing 48-45.
Copiah finished the season with a record of 9-19.
