Flood warning issued for Pearl River in eastern Copiah County

Water from the Pearl River creeps under the iron bridge on Hwy. 28 east of Georgetown on Monday. The river swelled to 26.8 feet on Tuesday before beginning to fall. Widespread lowland flooding is occurring in the Rockport area.

Minor flooding is occurring along the Pearl River in the Rockport community in eastern Copiah County.  The river’s stage is a little over 26 feet and falling after reaching a crest of 26.8 feet on Tuesday morning.

The forecast calls for water to slowly fall below flood stage this afternoon.  The effects of the high water will be felt in the low lying places in the area, mostly pasture and bottom land.  No evacuations have been ordered by the NWS.

A flood warning is in effect until 4:30 a.m. Friday.
