The yellow crime scene police tape used to cordon off the house located at 804 Lee Avenue in Crystal Springs and the street surrounding it signaled the horror of authorities digging up the back yard of the property in search of a woman who had been missing for weeks.
Around 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Investigator Chris Palmer, Crystal Springs Police Department, confirmed that a body discovered in a shallow grave behind the home of Jason Bailey, 38, who was found dead in his residence there over the weekend, was believed to be that of Judy Greer, Bailey’s mother.
“We found the son dead in the house on Saturday (after a family member discovered it.) We were already investigating the claim made by several members of the Greer family that they had not seen Mrs. Greer for several weeks,” stated Investigator Palmer.
The police department searched the house and the backyard where they noticed a portion of the yard has been disturbed. Upon investigation, authorities deemed the area to be a shallow grave. Members of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Crystal Springs Police Department and the Copiah County Coroner’s Office proceeded to dig up the area. A body was discovered shortly after. The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office to, firstly, attempt to identify it and, secondly, determine a cause of death.
Palmer stated that the Crystal Springs police had answered several domestic violence calls the the home between the mother and son, who had both lived in the residence for quite some time.
“We will wait the autopsy to determine the cause of death (of the exhumed body). We do not believe foul play was involved in this case,” stated Palmer. Authorities also are awaiting a toxicology report on Bailey’s body. Foul play wasn’t suspected in his death at this time, Palmer said.
