By Jonathan Thompson
On June 4, 2012, the Crystal Springs Mayor’s Youth Council along with community members represented Crystal Springs and Mississippi as a whole in Elliot London’s documentary Friends Cross Country”. The purpose of this documentary was to capture real life horror stories from people across America who have been bullied or being bullied, and solutions to resolve it. This documentary will be showed nationally and internationally to raise funds for his upcoming film “Friend”.
Kassious Catchings, 16 year old, gave an emotional testimony about how he has attempted to kill himself twice because he was constantly tormented by bullies. “I feel like nobody loves me; everything I do is wrong so why live”, said Catchings.
More horror stories from the depths of young souls filled the room. Tears rushed down the faces of parents and community members as they sat clueless of the agony endured by the teens due to bullying. As the cameras rolled, parents begin to tell their stories of being bullied as a child. This event was a brought healing and restoration to many who opened up.
The CS Mayor’s Youth Council will continue the fight to eradicate bullying in schools and communities. Updates on when the documentary will air will be posted on the Mayor’s Youth Council’s website at www.csmyc.org and facebook page www.facebook.com/CSMYC.
