Copiah County Farmers Market begins Saturday

The sign hanging over the pavilion in downtown Hazlehurst say its all. Saturday is the start of the Copiah County Farmers Market.
The Farmers Market Steering Committee is excited about the opening day.
Steering Committee members  pictured to the right are Daphine Foster Project Manager, Rick Snyder, Elizabeth McKinley, Shirley Jones, Rev. Victor Dixon, Pamela Roberts, Randle Day, Shelley Curtis, Promotions Manager and David Yowell, Market Manager.
“We have worked on planning this event for the last 16 months.  We have thought about and planned for everything that will make this event customer-friendly including customer parking and vendor accessibility,” stated Shelley Curtis, Promotions Manager.
“We have 12 local vendors who will provide a variety of Copiah County fruit, produce, and honey. At 10 a.m., we will host a reception of all the local, city and county officials who helped male this possible.  Steve Pitts, a blues guitarist, will perform throughout the day,” continued Curtis.
At noon, Shelley Curtis will conduct the first of many cooking demos to be held throughout the season by a variety of people.  
Pam Roberts, a steering committee member and the past president of the Mississippi Dietetics Association, will introduce to the community and teach a Body Works class. She will provide kits for those who want to attend the class. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for the class as soon as possible.
“We know this will be a starting point.  We will find out what works best this first year.  We see this as an opportunity to help promote and teach healthy lifestyle changes for the local community,” Curtis concluded.
