Two local teams improved their records on Friday night, while one is still searching for its first win.
Perhaps the upset of the night belonged to the Wesson Cobras, who went on the road and earned a win at Mize, 34-33. The Cobras held on after building a 34-19 lead in the fourth and improved to 3-0.
The Crystal Springs Tiger offense got rolling with a 35-0 win over Florence. The Tigers are now 2-1.
Copiah Academy saw its homecoming spoiled by a 13-7 loss to Central Hinds in former coach Mitch Mitchell’s return to the field where he won a state AA championship in 2006. The Colonels are now 0-3.
One game today will pit the Brookhaven Panthers, 1-0, against the Hazlehurst Indians, 2-0, in a much-anticipated match-up at McDaniel Stadium in Hazlehurst. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30. The game can be heard on the BHS radio network on 102.1 FM. Pre-game begins at 1:30.
