Wesson unveils Houston Stackhouse blues marker

Wesson mayor Alton Shaw, left, listens as Alex Thomas, MDA’s Music Trails Programs Manager, speaks at the unveiling of the blues marker dedicated to Houston Stackhouse.

Wesson punched its ticket on the Mississippi Blues Trail last Wednesday when officials from Mississippi Development Authority joined Wesson mayor Alton Shaw and a host of townsfolk at the unveiling of a marker honoring the memory of Houston Stackhouse.
“We are so pleased to honor this man who was part of the influence of the Delta blues music in the early 1900s,” said Alex Thomas, Music Trails Program Manager in MDA.
Shaw and Thomas did the honors of the unveiling in front of a crowd of around 30, including family members of the late Tommy Johnson, who has his own marker near Crystal Springs.
Afterwards, a reception was held inside the newly renovated Old Wesson School, which is nearing completion as a community center.
