Varsity Cobras still trying to find their ways on court

By Corey McKinney

The Cobras started off the week playing St. Joseph in the Bogue Chitto tournament last Thursday night. Wesson played well and led the Bruins most of the game, but they ended up losing 77-71. Terry Brown led the Cobras with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Farrod Green had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Patrick Lumley also scored 16 points.

The Cobras rallied back Friday night when the traveled to play the Raleigh Lions. The Cobras blew the Lions right out of their own gym, with the final score being 73-42. Terry Brown led the scoring category for the Cobras with 13 points. Mack Smith had a great game, scoring 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Wesson continued their play in the Bogue Chitto tournament last Saturday as they faced off with the Florence Eagles. The Eagles handled their own, beating the Cobras 78-65. Both James Clay and Terry Brown had 11 points and 4 rebounds apiece for the Cobras. Farrod Green had 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Wesson’s record is now 3-3. The Cobras don’t play again until November 27 when they play Magee at home. Then they will play Raleigh at home on that Thursday. They end the week playing Bogue Chitto Saturday December 1 at home.

Wesson Lady Cobras are 0-6, still looking for their first win. They have lost some extremely close games, the double overtime loss to West Lincoln and the overtime loss to St. Andrews. But the Lady Cobras are still fighting hard and not giving up so quickly. Coach Magee said this week, “We are an inexperienced team with only one player with experience. My seniors have been stepping up being leaders and setting the tone for hustle and heart. We are going to have to hustle and work hard in practice. In the games, we have missed lay ups and free throws have killed us. We are improving every game and that’s our goal, to improve and be ready for when district games start.”
