MLK, Jr. Day celebration this morning

The Hazlehurst Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s, Jr. Birthday by sponsoring a free to the public commemoration breakfast this morning, starting at 9 a.m. at the Greater Damascus Outreach Center located at 160 West Gallatin Street in Hazlehurst, MS.

“This is our eighth year sponsoring programs in honor of Dr. King and his legacy. It is our hope that the community will join us, as we continue to uphold Dr. King’s great vision of a vibrant, multiracial nation united in justice, peace and reconciliation, by attending our thought-provoking program,” stated Shirley Sandifer, president of the Hazlehurst Chapter of the NAACP.

All state and federal agencies are closed today, along with Co-Lin, all local schools, all local banks and several other businesses, in honor of the day set aside to commemorate the life of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
