CA girls earn three-game sweep in late season basketball

The Copiah Academy Lady Colonels evened their record at 14-14 after picking up wins against Hillcrest Christian, Parklane Academy, and Trinity Episcopal last week.
On Tuesday, CA outscored Hillcrest 19-8 in the pivotal third quarter as the Lady Colonels rallied to beat the Lady Cougars 45-39 in Gallman. Hillcrest led 12-9 after the first period and 19-14 at halftime. But Copiah turned the game around, taking a 33-27 lead after three quarters and maintaining the margin during the final eight minutes.
Taylor Wilson led the winners with 20 points including five 3’s, four of them in the third period. Other CA scorers included Kelli Berry with 7 points, Kaylie Carpenter with 6 points, Victoria Allen with 5 points, Lindsey Walker with 4 points, Carleigh Roberts with 2 points, and Kelly Byrd with one point.
Last Friday night, Copiah outscored Parklane Academy 21-12 in the second period and went on to beat the Lady Pioneers 61-53 in Gallman. Instrumental in the Lady Colonels’ victory was the fact they made 26 of 32 free throws in the contest.
Victoria Allen led the winners with 14 points, followed by Lindsey Walker with 12 points, and Taylor Wilson with 10 points. Other CA totals included Carleigh Roberts with 9 points, Kaylie Carpenter with 8 points, Brooke Walker with 5 points, and Kelli Berry with 3 points.
Copiah completed a perfect week after annihilating the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints 54-13 in Natchez last Saturday. The Lady Colonels jumped in front 14-7 in the first period and then took complete control after an 18-0 run in the second quarter.
Taylor Wilson led all scorers with 29 points. Additional CA totals included Victoria Allen with 8 points, Kaylie Carpenter with 6 points, Kelli Berry with 3 points, and a host of players with 2 points: Lindsey Walker, Brooke Walker, Carleigh Roberts, and Micah Smith.
The Lady Colonels had their final regular season game as they hosted East Rankin Academy this past Tuesday night.
