Eddie L. Givens

Eddie L. Givens, 67 of Crystal Springs, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, in his home

Visitation will be held at Stringer Funeral Home in Crystal Springs Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.  Services will be held on Feb. 20 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with interment in Sauls Valley Cemetery in Monticello.  A eulogy will be given by John Martin of Wesson.

Mr. Givens was born March 14, 1946 to Edward Givens and Laura Ellen Sauls Givens, both deceased, of Lawrence County.  His father, Edward, was the first manager of the Copiah County Wildlife Management Area at Barlow.  Eddie was raised on the Management Area, then called the Henneberry Plantation.

 
Eddie graduated from High School and Copiah Lincoln Jr. College.  His employment history includes Game Warden for the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks; Baker Sand Control in Houma, Louisiana; truck driver; and Deputy Sheriff and Investigator for the Copiah County Sheriff’s Department.  He was retired at the time of death.
 
Eddie served in the United States Air Force for four years as an air intelligence specialist, and was in active deployment in the Vietnam Conflict.  A long time Mason, he was a member of the Jayess Lodge.
 
Survivors include: wife, Shirley Givens of Crystal Springs; daughter, Rhonda Rempel of Ocean Springs; granddaughter, Morgann Davis of Ocean Springs, and twin grandsons, Hayden and Taylor Burt of Jayess.
 
Pall bearers are John Goza, Tommy Rials, Jamie Sauls, Terry McKenzie, Johnny Ainsworth and Glen Sauls.  Honorary pall bearers are Frank Ainsworth, Ricky Jasper, Rick Williams and Patrick Williams.
