Co-Lin job fair dates, new format, and resume prep workshops

WESSON – The annual Copiah-Lincoln Community College Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, March 26, and on Wednesday, March 27 in the Billy B. Thames Conference Center on the college’s Wesson Campus. The free event is open to the public and presented by the Career, Technical and Workforce Education Division at Co-Lin.

The Pathways Job Fair takes a different approach than in years past. Three sessions determined by career pathways will be held over the two-day event. On Tuesday, from 9-11 a.m., the transportation, engineering, and industrial pathways will be the focus. Businesses and industries, local andregional, will be present to speak with individuals with experience in truck driving, heavy machinery, automotive, diesel, electronics, drafting and design, precision machining, automation and control and other related fields. Tuesday afternoon the focus shifts to computer and office professionals, service industry pathways, which includes but is not limited to business office, computer networking, cosmetology, food service, and childcare. This sessionwill be held from 1-3 p.m. Finally, session three will be held on Wednesday, March 27 and will feature jobs in the healthcare industry. Potential employees with skills in nursing, billing and coding, radiology, medical lab technicians and related fields will have the opportunity to meet with employers from 9-11 a.m.

“We believe this new format will put employers and individuals interested in the same type of employment in an environment more conducive for networking andon-the-spot interviews. Individuals should select the appropriate pathways(s) and plan to attend dressed for success with copies of their resumes in hand,” explained Angela Berch, Workforce Education Director.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet employers that are hiring, obtain career information, establish contacts through networking and identify career, internship, and summer employment opportunities.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College Workforce Education and the WIN Job Centers in Brookhaven and Hazlehurst have partnered to present two workshops designed to assist job fair participants to be prepared for the event. Workshops will be held Tuesday, March 19 at the WIN Centers. Those interested should contact their local center for workshop times and registration. In addition, students will be provided the same opportunity on March 21 on the Wesson Campus.
