Chamber promoting shotgun fundraiser for Rockin’ Railroad

The 2013 Rockin’ Railroad Festival presented by the Hazlehurst Chamber of Commerce is less than two months away, and fundraising efforts are in full force.
The organization is doing so in part by raffling off a Remington 20 gauge 870 Express Synthetic black shotgun.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 each and can be purchased from the Chamber office at 103 S. Ragsdale Avenue.
Bob Berch, Ron Sims, Guy Young and Randal Day are also selling tickets.
“We know everybody,” Young, who serves as chairman of the Festival committee.  “We encourage everyone to take part and help us raise funds to pay for this year’s festival,” he added.
Rockin’ Railroad Festival began in 2009  to bring the community together for one day for a fun-filled, family-style event.  Entertainers who have appeared over the years include Hazlehurst’s own Pat Roper, The Colonels, Super Chikan and many other local bands and performers.  Many well-known artists and authors from the area have shown and sold their work.  Students have won art contests.  Local vendors have enjoyed good shopping from the estimated 12,000 who have attended the event the first four years.
American Idol performer Skylar Laine is headlining this year’s festival, scheduled for September 28.
“The event is free to all who attend and is financially supported by our sponsors.  So, we are asking for the public’s help to make it even better this year,” Day said.
