Larry Mitchell
James Larry Mitchell, 66, of Crystal Springs, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
Visitation will be 10am-11am Friday at Highland Baptist Church. Services will be 11am Friday at Highland Baptist Church with burial at Poplar Springs Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.
Mr. Mitchell was born July 31, 1947 in Crystal Springs. He was the youngest of 7 children to the late Everett Austin Mitchell and Lillia Marie Mitchell. He graduated from Crystal Springs High School in 1965. Mr. Mitchell joined the Navy for four years when he was 17. He married Norma Alicia Osuna on June 24, 1969.
He was saved in 1969 at Highland Baptist Church then went to Mexican Baptist Bible Institute in San Antonio, Tx. While there he served as pastor of the Spanish mission of First Baptist Church in Poteet, Texas. He became an independent and dedicated missionary for 40 years. He had a longing and a love to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to the destitute people of Mexico including many isolated indian tribes. He was bold, brave, knowledgeable, full of life, loving, affectionate and a self proclaimed comedian.
He was preceded in death by a son, Santiago Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Norma Alicia Osuna Mitchell; daughters, MaryAnn Cline of Las Vegas, NV, and Mariacelia Murray of Sierra Vista, AZ; brother, Everette Mitchell, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Fitzpatrick and Fannie Ardizonnie; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
