Tigers’s comeback falls short, Wesson picks up first win

Two teams with combined record of 1-12 met in Stone Stadium on the Co-Lin campus in Wesson on Friday night searching for a way to win. One came out with its first victory, and the other is still looking for answers, as Wesson defeated Crystal Springs 55-53.
The Cobras (1-6, 1-1) fell behind 14-0 early in the first period, then outscored the Tigers (1-6, 0-2) 35-0 the rest of the first half.  They scored two touchdowns in the final minute of the second quarter, the second one on and intercepted pitch from Tiger quarterback Jerricko Morris that was returned for a TD with no time left on the clock.
The second half was a back and forth affair.  Crystal Springs closed it to 35-27 halfway through the third quarter.  Then Wesson posted three more scores to lead 55-35 headed into the fourth.
The Tigers punched it in 4 times, but came up one 2-point conversion short of tying the game in the final seconds and sending it to overtime.
Crystal Springs was led by Morris, who staked his claim to a Player of the Week honor with 7 touchdowns-5 rushing and 2 passing-150 rushing yards and 295 passing yards.  He also accumulated 90 yards on kick returns.
Stats for Wesson players had not been made available on Friday afternoon.
The Cobras travel to Jefferson County next Friday night, while the Tigers will be at Franklin County.  Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m.
