Colonels counting on new coach, new players, and new results
By James Beasley
The Copiah Academy Colonels have a new coach, several new players, and apparently a new attitude heading into the upcoming basketball season. The new coach is 30-year-old Henry Gantz, who won the MAIS Overall Tournament last year as head coach at Central Private Academy in Baker, Louisiana, when his team beat Jackson Prep. “That was the greatest day of my life,” he says with a smile.
Gantz grew up in the Delta and graduated from Indianola Academy. The 6’5” Inverness native was named the MVP of the 2001 MPSA All-Star Game. He studied journalism at Ole Miss and has been in Louisiana the last 6 years, 3 at Briarfield and 3 at Central Private. He’s excited about his new challenge at CA.
