Carlene Freiler Pyron

Carlene Freiler Pyron, 80, of Hazlehurst, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, in Hazlehurst. 

Visitation will be 5pm-7pm Tuesday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.  Services will be 10am Wednesday at Hazlehurst United Methodist Church with burial at Felders Cemetery in Summit, MS.  Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Pyron was born February 10, 1933 in McComb and was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Ludwig Freiler and Ouida Felder Freiler, sister, Frances Freiler Nobles and her husband W. H. “Shag” Pyron.

She graduated high school from Whitworth College Preparatory School in Brookhaven in 1951.  She attended Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.  She graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, with a degree in Education.  She had a passion for Mississippi State although she never attended there.  Carlene was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Debutante Club of Mississippi.

Carlene loved being at Camp Meeting at Felders Campground in Summit, Mississippi each summer and was an active member of Hazlehurst United Methodist Church since 1948 where she was involved in many outreach programs through the church as well as the community.  In addition to her years as an English teacher, she served as Attendance Counselor for Copiah County for many years.

She was a member of the Hazlehurst Garden Club, Demitasse Club of Jackson, Bromeliad Society, Friends of the Library, as wells as others.  She had a deep love for her church family and community.  Her love for plants was evident throughout her home.  Carlene so enjoyed sharing in the many activities of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, William Freiler Pyron and wife Bethany of Jackson, Robert Craig Pyron and wife, Courtney of Crystal Springs, John Carl Pyron and wife Johna of Hazlehurst; and eight grandchildren, Ali, Emily, Rob, Mary Landrum, Elizabeth, Colter, Amanda, and Latham.
