Brick Street Trio performs Nov. 9

The MacDowell Music Club will offer a program of music by the Brick Street Trio to the Crystal Springs community and to people in the surrounding areas. The performance will be on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wisteria Inn at 106 West Railroad Avenue South in Crystal Springs.

The Brick Street Trio formed in the summer of 2011 from faculty members of the music department of Mississippi College. They chose their name as a tribute to Clinton, the city they love and where they have put down roots. The combo plays light jazz and popular standards. The Trio is composed of Crystal Springs native Michael Rushing on drums, James Sclater on piano, and Ben Williams on bass. They will be joined for this performance by saxophonist Craig Young. While the Trio is playing, desserts and coffee or mulled cider will be served to the audience.

Dr. Rushing is Assistant Professor of Music at Mississippi College and one of his responsibilities is to direct the Taylor School of Music, a community outreach arm of the MC Department of Music. For Dr. Rushing, who’s also a superb pianist (thanks in part to Edith Kitchens), playing with the Brick Street Trio is a thrill. “As someone who makes a living in music, it’s great to get together with other musicians in a low-stress environment and just play,” Rushing said.

Everyone who enjoys music should come to this event. It will be a fast hour of good entertainment, good desserts, and good fellowship.
