Albert McAtee Funchess, age 81, passed away at his Centerpoint home on February 7, 2014 following a brief illness.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Friday, February 14 at the Centerpoint Methodist Church on Brown’s Wells Road and the memorial service will be at 1:00 PM. Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven will be handling the arrangements, and interment will be in the church cemetery.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Troy Albert and Hallie Mae McAtee Funchess, and youngest son Byron Terry Funchess.
He is survived by son Thomas Albert Funchess of Hazlehurst and Houston, Texas; and a cousins, Dorothy McAtee Harrell of Hazlehurst, William Graeber McAtee, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Cliff McAtee of Westminster Colorado.
McAtee graduated from Hazlehurst High School and Mississippi State Universty. At MSU he earned a degree in math and agriculture. He served in the Mississippi National Guard. He spent several years working for the Mississippi Motor Vehicle Comptroller, but most of his working life was spent running his bulldozers, moving houses and house trailers, and general forestry and land work.
Some of his favorite pastimes were playing his trumpet at the church he loved, writing his column for the Copiah County Courier, and riding his motorcycle and four wheeler. Talking and visiting with both old and new friends gave him much pleasure.
