Boy Scouts earn Eagle Scout Award

D’Quavius Vonzell Tanner, DeArrius DiAnte Rhymes, Jarvis Devonte Jones, and Adicuz Tyreque Harris from The Hazlehurst Boy Scouts, Troop 142 have earned the Boy Scouts of America highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. The scouts were awarded at the Boys Scouts of America – Andrew Jackson Council Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet. The banquet was held on Feb. 7, at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson.

To earn the Eagle Scout Award scouts must take on leadership roles within their troop, earn at least 21 merit badges, organize and coordinate a community service project and complete an Eagle Scout board of review. USM, MSU, and Ole Miss awarded each scout a $6,000 scholarship to attended their University.

All of the Eagle Scouts attend Hazlehurst High School and have high aspirations for their future collegiate paths.

Tanner is a sophomore and hopes to pursue a career in Engineering. Rhymes is a freshman and hopes to pursue a career in Architecture/Construction. Jones is a sophomore and hopes to pursue a career in Technology.  Lastly, Harris is a freshman and hopes to pursue a career in Business Management.

D’Quavius V. Tanner is the son of Eric B. Tanner, Sr. and the late Deborah Tanner; DeArrius Rhymes is the son of  Sammy and Vicki Rhymes; Jarvis Jones is the son of David and Sheila Jones; and Adicuz Harris is the son of Angelina Lynch and Ervin Harris, all of Hazlehurst.  
The Scouts would like to thank their Charter Organization, Greater Damascus Church of Christ Holiness, (Pastor) Elder Clifton Goodloe, Jr., Troop/Pack 142, and the community for all their support.
