Colonels sweep three, improve to 5-0
Copiah Academy baseball has gotten off to a good start with the Colonels winning the first five games of the season, including three last week.
Last Thursday, the Colonels defeated Hartfield Academy 16-3, racing for 12 runs in the fourth inning.
Copiah took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks to a double by Will Lingle that scored Colton Meadows and Ryan Drew.
The homestanding Hawks took a one-run lead in the bottom of the third with three runs. Copiah tied it, then took the lead for good with the explosive fourth inning.
Lingle started off the inning with a line drive single. Peyton Murphy walked and put runners on first and second. Austin Ragland bunted safely to load the bases for Tyler Lott. Lott’s hard grounder found a hole in left and drive in Lingle. Corey Eckhoff reached safely on a hard line drive that the Hawk shortstop couldn’t handle, scoring Murphy to put Copiah ahead 4-2.
Zane Frazier’s single drove in Ragland to put Copiah up 5-2.
