Local school nurse to speak at state school nurse conference

Hazlehurst District school nurse Stephanie Parrish RN, BSN NCSN has been chosen as one of the guest speakers in the break out session on becoming a national board certified school nurse.
The 21st annual school nurse conference begins April 9. The theme for the conference is “Contributing to the Health and well-being of all Students with Integrity and excellence.”
This year’s conference will be held at the Natchez Convention Center in Natchez.
Nurse Parrish has been with the Hazlehurst School District for 12 years and successfully met the requirements for becoming a National Board Certified School Nurse in 2007. Nurse Parrish states passing the certification exam was very rewarding and exciting the exam is as complex as the NCLEX for RN. Presently, the state has a total of 463 school nurses and of that 46 are nationally certified. In order to sit for the exam the nurse must be a school nurse for three years and have a bachelors degree.
Nurse Parrish has been very active in the school nurse association since 2002. She has been the West School Nurse of the year, chosen to speak before our legislatures at the state capital on school nursing and continued the promotion of school nursing in Washington DC speaking with some our state representatives.
