Chamber to host Memorial Day event at Courthouse

The 2014 Memorial Day ceremony will again be held in the courtroom of the County Courthouse in Hazlehurst on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m.  This is a ceremony for the entire county.
“It is a time to remember all of those who have died in the service of our country, especially those from our own county” stated Randall Day, Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, who sponsors the event each year.
“One hundred and fifty-three of our county citizens have their names engraved on the monument that stands on the courthouse lawn. The names begin with eighteen from World War I and end with one from the War on Terror. The ceremony Monday will conclude with the placing of a wreath at the monument. Everyone is encouraged to come out and honor all who have given so much of our country,” concluded Day.
The speaker for the day will be Lt. Colonel. (retired) Dale Beasley. Col. Beasley is a Copiah County native and a graduate of Copiah Academy. He and his wife, have four children. Their oldest son has recently received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy Prepatory School.
Col. Beasley served 31 years before retiring.  During that time, he served in Germany, Korea, Japan, Egypt, Kuwait and Iraq, in addition to numerous state-side assignments.
