Three killed in vehicle wrecks in the county over the weekend

The Clarion-Ledger reported today that three motorists were killed on county roadways over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Coroner Ellis Stuart said Jackie Grantham of Wesson, age 51, was killed on Smyrna Road on Friday afternoon when his empty log truck veered off the road into some trees.  Stuart said attempts to revive Grantham, who was driving home to attend his daughter’s high school graduation at Wesson Attendance Center, after he was transported to Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst were unsuccessful.

Two other accidents involved out-of-county drivers.  Megan Earnest, 34, of Prentiss was killed Saturday when the vehicle she was riding in with her husband crashed into a tree on Thomas Road near Crystal Springs.  She was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Clarion-Ledger article.

A Florence man was killed Sunday on Ruby Road near Crystal Springs when his pick-up veered off the roadway and struck trees.  Benjamin E. Jones, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Clarion-Leger reported.
