Charles Vernon Bland, 78, of Wesson, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at his home.
Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Sunday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 2pm Monday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mr. Bland was born January 24, 1936 in Copiah County to Leatha Eveln Henderson and Charlie Henry Bland. He attended Centennial School in Copiah County until eighth grade, then, finished his education graduating from Wesson High School. During high school, he played football, baseball, and basketball. Also he had the distinction of being the first male cheerleader for Wesson High School, and was chosen Most Handsome by his classmates.
Mr. Bland owned and operated Charles Bland Dozer Service for 30 years. Many house sites were prepared, and numerous ponds in the area were attributed to his work, of which he was very proud. In his later years Mr. Bland raised and trained Catahoula Cur dogs.
Survivors include son, Charles Dalton Bland and wife Nanette, two granddaughters, Megan Bland of Washington, D.C., Tristin Bland of Wesson, and numerous cousins.
