We made it to football season

The weather forecast is calling for highs in upper 90s, strangling humidity and a heat index of over 100 degrees each day for the next few days. That can only mean one thing in this area: football season is about to start.
Mother Nature gave us a break from the summer in recent weeks, turning late July and early August into what felt like late September and early October. She has now taken that away and is sending us a reminder that summer is here to stay, at least for a while. Whatever savings we had on our light bills in recent months will now be put towards the August one.
Most of us are glad the wait is over, regardless of the weather. Another football season is here, which is all that matters. Communities will come together on Friday nights to encourage the local team to a win. Fans and boosters will crisscross the area following their teams, sometimes getting back well into the night, unloading band buses and player equipment and turning out the last light at the school before heading home dreary-eyed and plum worn out.
Enjoy the ride this year. We hope all of the student-athletes in each sport in our area learn from the competition, the successes and failures and the journey along the way.
