Mayor Henry Banks’ comments to our reporter, Bonnie Jackson, after last Tuesday’s called meeting of the town’s Board of Aldermen were downright uncalled for. Banks brashly told Bonnie after the meeting, when she had asked a question about a vote the board had taken in open meeting, that she was “being facetious” and “playing a word game” with him. On the contrary, Mr. Mayor, Bonnie was simply trying to get a clarification on the matter, as she is paid to do.
Mr. Mayor, you did not come into your position by some declaration or some appointment. You were elected to a position of public trust, remember? At least have the decency to be courteous and the graciousness to perform your duties in a statesman-like manner.
