One person is being sought for two attempted robberies on the same day in Hazlehurst last week.
According to Hazlehurst Police Department, a lonesuspect attempted to rob both a convenience store and a drug store on Thursday, September 25.
“We received a call at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, September 24, from Walgreens’ employees stating that a person had attempted to rob the store,” stated Byron Swilley, HPD Chief.
“An alert clerk saw the suspect approaching the store. He was dressed in all black, and already had a piece of clothing wrapped around his face. He never gained entry into the store,” Chief Swilley said.
“Around 9:40 p.m. on the same night, we received a second call from Ricky’s Food Mart stating that they had been robbed,” confirmed Chief Swilley.
“The alleged suspect entered the food mart located at 202 Ragsdale Street brandishing a weapon, and demanded money from the female clerk. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money,” continued Chief Swilley.
According to Chief Swilley, there was one other customer in the store at the time the armed robbery occurred.
Chief Swilley stated that HPD is still in the initial stages of the investigation. “We are reviewing surveillance tapes from both businesses for leads. We need the assistance of the public to help us identify and capture this person. To anyone who has any information regarding these cases, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-8crimes (827-4637) or HPD on our new hotline (601) 894-1177,” said Chief Swilley.
HPD changed the new hotline number because it was very similar to a local business.
