Jerry Walter Gandy

Jerry Walter Gandy, 76, passed away peacefully at home Friday, December 19, 2014. A graveside service will be held at the Family Cemetery Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 2104 Sardis Road, Hazlehurst.

Walter was born on January 11, 1938, to James David Gandy and Jessie Mae Armstrong. He graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1957.Mr. Gandy served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961. He worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1993. After he retired he went to work for Herring Gas Company and retired again in 2003
.
Friends and family will always remember him for being very hard working, earning the nickname “Old War Horse” by many who knew him. He also enjoyed toiling in his garden, sometimes even into the late hours of the night, plowing the fields at times by mule. He planted everything from cantaloupe to zucchini, thou crowder peas and field corn were his favorites and always with a slice of fresh cornbread.

Mr. Gandy is survived by his wife, Lynn Gandy; son, Jason Gandy; daughter, Millie Gandy; and daughter-in-law, Anita Gandy; brothers, Wallace Gandy of Hazlehurst, Marion Gandy of Baton Rouge, LA; and sisters, Minnie Lee Meadows of Jacksonville, FL, and Linnie Mae Shirley of Jackson.
