William Wayne Sumrall

William Wayne Sumrall, 81,of Crystal Springs, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Affairs Nursing Home Unit in Jackson. 

Visitation will be Thursday from 11am-1pm at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs.  Services will be 1pm Thursday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

 
A native of Copiah County Wayne resided most of his life in Crystal Springs.  He was a graduate of Crystal Springs High School and also attended Business College to learn bookkeeping.  Prior to retirement he worked at Business Community Cash Grocery, Bennett’s Food Store and employed part time at Grayson’s.  Prior to being in the grocery business, he sold Georgia Life Insurance and was a U. S. Postal mail carrier in Jackson.  He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge.  He was a member of the Crystal Springs Lion’s Club and also a volunteer firefighter.  For over 50 years, Wayne was an active member of the Crystal Springs United Methodist Church serving on the Finance Committee, as an usher and taking Sunday school attendance.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Faye Gibson of Canton, MS; an infant daughter, Carolyn Ann Sumrall; his parents, Albert Monroe Sumrall and Alice Sykes Sumrall and sisters, Elizabeth “Knot” Sumrall, Mary Ellen Sumrall Jackson and Dorothy Jean Sumrall Moore all from Crystal Springs.
 
Survivors include: Bill and his wife, Kim of Alexandria, LA; Penny Sumrall Minton and her husband, Tommy of Wesson, MS and Glynn and his wife, Linda of Biloxi, MS.  Grandchildren, Nathan Minton and wife Kellan and great grandson Konner Minton, Eric Whaley of Newark, Delaware and Alison Whaley Peterson and her husband Joshua and great grandson, Trenton Peterson of Ponchatoula, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
