HHS girls, boys track finish strong in state 3A meet

The Hazlehurst Indian track teams both placed in the MHSAA state track and field meeting May 8 in Pearl.

The Lady Indians team, consisting of Danisha Davis, D’Asia Thigpen, Ronisha Murray and Marshelle James placed third on the 4×200 and fourth on the 4×100 meter relays. Their coach is Sheba Smith.

Marshelle James received second place for the 400 meter dash; D’Asia Thigpen placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles; and Ronisha Murray placed third in the long jump.

The Hazlehurst Indians team, Jaqrius Smith, Zmaya Walton, Svanta Murray, D’Quavius Tanner, Christopher Shannon, Tyreek Joyner, Kentravaes Beasley, and Trivania Brown, placed in several competitions, coming in fifth place in the 4×200 meter and second place in the 4×400 meter.

Jaqrius Smith placed seventh in the 300 meter hurdle and Zmaya Walton placed seventh in the 400 meter dash.
