Wayne Ivy was the son of Prentiss and Ruth Ivy of Brookhaven, MS.  He attended and graduated from Heuck’s Retreat School, Brookhaven, MS.  After high school he served in the US ARMY for two years, one year of which was spent in occupational forces in Japan.   After his honorable discharge he attended Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College where he met a young lady, Kennie who would later become his wife.  After he completed his work at Co-Lin he entered Mississippi State University where he received his B.S. Degree and Masters Degree in Agricultural work.  He and Kennie were married at Bethel Baptist Church on December 24, 1950.

Over the ensuing years he served as an agricultural teacher at Heuck’s Retreat School teaching veterans, and Georgetown High School.  He later worked with the MS Cooperative Extension Service and for the USDA Farmers Home Administration.  He took early retirement from the Farmers Home Administration as a result of an auto-train accident.  He continued to reside in Copiah County east of Hazlehurst for the next forty plus years.

He was always active in his church and served as a Baptist deacon for most of those years.  He was active in community and church activities until the last few months where his physical abilities would not allow participation.  He was a loving and compassionate man with a warm winning smile.

Surviving family include his wife Kennie of over 65 years, son David and wife Melody of Rankin County and son Danny and his wife Cathy of Lincoln County.  There are 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren living in Mississippi, Texas, and Alabama.

Surviving siblings include Robert Ivy of Brookhaven, Kathleen Keyes of Brandon, and Sarah Beeson of Brookhaven.
