Cobras, Lady Cobras split against West Lincoln

The Lady Cobras played their season opener against the Lady Bears last Tuesday night and lost with a disappointing score of 35-63.

“We played well early in the game,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “West Lincoln just took for granted too many opportunities that hurt us. We have a week to practice to get ready to face Bogue Chitto.”

Jashia Smith, Cobra senior, was the top scorer for Wesson with 11 points. Smith also had 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Sabria Green, Alaysha Vaughn and Tashay Glasper shot 6 points each and Aurianna Vaughn, Carnesha Green and Alaysha Mims had 2 points each. Carnesha Green followed with 5 rebounds and Aurianna Vaughn had 3 steals. The Lady Cobras were 6/16 from the free throw line.


The Wesson Cobras got a big win over the West Lincoln Bears with a final score of 63-51 last Tuesday night.

“We played with a lot of intensity and got an early lead against a tough West Lincoln team,” stated Cobra coach Rusty Newman. “I’m proud to start the season off with a win.”
Senior Anthony Jones led the night with 35 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Junior Eric Rhymes was another top player with 8 rebounds, and a point total of 18 which included 3 three-pointers. Randy Hooker and Kendrick Brown shot 3 points each and Jermaine James and Will Hulon had 2 points each. The Cobras were 7/13 in free throws.
