DAR recognizes winners

Cherokee Rose Chapter, NSDAR, met Wednesday, March 23 at Covington Memorial Library in Hazlehurst.  Special guests were American History Essay Contest Winners, 6th grade students from Copiah Academy, Makayla Russell, 1st place; Chris Ellis, 2nd place; Mary Beth Coates, 2nd place (tie); family members Bill and Becky Russell, Jennifer Ellis, and Brandi Coates; and teachers Becky Walker and Susan Toney. The students read their informative and entertaining essays on “A Colonial Family’s Reaction to the Stamp Act.”  DAR sponsors the American History Essay Contest in schools each year to raise awareness of significant historical people, places, dates, and events.
