Plastic products manufacturer McNeely Plastics has invested $6.5 million and has created 25 new jobs at the company’s new operations in the Copiah County Industrial Park in Gallman. The plant conversion was attended by numerous state and local officials July 27.
Those participating included Arthur Lee Evans, Executive Director, Copiah County Economic Development District; Governor Phil Bryant; Perry Hood, President, Copiah County Board of Supervisors; Jay Moon, President and CEO, MS Manufacturers Association; and Greg McNeely, President, McNeely Plastic Products, Inc.
“Throughout the state, we work hard to provide a business environment favorable for companies’ growth and success. McNeely Plastics’ expansion and investment in Hazlehurst serves as a testament to that,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.
McNeely Plastics is located in an existing 59,000-square-foot, county-owned facility. The building was previously occupied by furniture manufacturer MMI.
“This building sat empty for a long time,” Evans said. “And, now this building has come alive!” he added.
Mississippi Development Authority provided loan assistance in support of the project to purchase and renovate the building. Copiah County also assisted with the project.
Greg McNeely explained that Copiah County was a good fit in many ways. “We couldn’t be more pleased with your county officials, the development district and all who made this possible. Everyone has welcomed us with open arms and has bent over backwards to make this project work,” he said.
The growth of the plastics industry and in plastics innovation has placed the company in good position globally, McNeely added. “Selecting the site was important, but good timing has been our ally more than anything else,” he explained.
“When Mississippi’s existing businesses, such as McNeely Plastics, choose to grow and create new career opportunities, they show the world Mississippi is a great place for business,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “We appreciate our partners at the Copiah County Economic Development District, the Copiah County Board of Supervisors and the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District whose teamwork with MDA played an important role in this expansion.”
McNeely Plastics also has a location in Clinton, employing over 100 Mississippians. Plans for another plant in the Atlanta area are underway.
McNeely Plastics was founded in 1983, and is a manufacturer of plastic, flexible packaging for a wide range of markets that include both food and non-food packaging. For more information, visit www.mcneelyplastics.com.
