Dorothy Thornton

Dorothy Mae Middleton Thornton, 91, of Crystal Springs, passed away November 6, 2016 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Tuesday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs and 10am-11am Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church.  Services will be 11am Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church with burial at New Zion Cemetery.  Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Thornton was born and raised in Hazlehurst.  She played basketball at Hazlehurst High School and Co-Lin.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Mrs. Thornton was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thornton helped start the Copiah-New Zion Water Association and was the secretary for many years.

Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Terrell Thomas Thornton and daughter, Brenda Channell.

She is survived by son, Thomas Joe Thornton of Madison; brothers, Joe Middleton of Hazlehurst and Dean Middleton of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Sue McIntyre of Vicksburg; 2 grandchildren, Anita Reid and Terri Walker; and 3 great grandchildren
