Rachel Davis Keyes

Rachel Davis Keyes, 89, of McKinney, TX went to see the Lord after a brief illness on the most special of all days, Easter Sunday April 16, 2017. She was born on June 5, 1927 to Zadok Cook Davis and Minnie Perrett Davis in Kilmichael, MS.

Rachel grew up in the Shady Grove Community of Mississippi and graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1945. She went on to attend Mississippi University for Women and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Her first teaching position after graduation was in New Hebron, MS where she met and married her husband, Homer C. Keyes, on August 13, 1950. They were married for 51 years, and resided in Jackson most of their marriage.

Rachel retired in 1988 after teaching Home Economics and Science for over thirty years at different schools including Green Cove Springs, FL, Peoples Junior High School, Forest Hill High School, and Raymond High School. She was a faithful member of Oak Forest Baptist Church and Jackson Primitive Baptist Church while living in Jackson.

She moved from Jackson to McKinney, TX in 1995 to be near her beloved grandchildren where she could attend all of their games, dances, events, and graduations. She was always ready to help in any way possible. While living in McKinney, Rachel was a member of First Baptist McKinney. She thoroughly loved planning and attending her family and school reunions back in Mississippi over the years. Everyone also knew her passion for watching sports; whether it be Mississippi State, the Texas Rangers or just about any team playing on television, she always knew the score.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Keyes; daughter, Janice Keyes; sister, Elizabeth Donahoe; and brother, Owen Cook Davis; and parents, Zadok and Minnie Davis.
